Hamburger Meat Grown in the Lab from Cow Stem Cells.

Cow

Move over cows. Here comes lab-grown hamburger.

Test tube babies. The idea was shocking at the time. Today, I heard about a new shocking concept. Lab-grown hamburger. Cultured from cow stem cells.

I’ve heard it said that the first person to bite into a tomato was brave. My opinion, the two men who bit into this modern lab marvel, hamburger from a petri dish,  were even braver.

The idea is admirable – reduce the dependence on actual animals to feed the world.

Frankly, I’m glad it won’t be coming to my grocery store any time soon.

For more on this fascinating story, including the first impressions from the brave souls who took the first bites, see AP Medical Writer Maria Cheng’s August 5th article, “Stem Cell Hamburger Makes Debut,” in BioscienceTechnology.com.
